Do-it-yourself projects are becoming frequently more popular as people are beginning to appreciate the authenticity of hand-crafted items. You may already completed your own DIY projects, but do you think you have what it takes to turn an ugly tree stump into a beautiful fairy house? Mimi did.

Back in April of 2015, Mimi’s husband told her that he had to cut down the dead tree that had been lingering in their backyard.

Mimi explained that she always has a new project in mind that she’d like to try and that she’s known for turning simple tasks into something far more complex.

There’s no way her husband could just cut down a tree without expecting her to start a project! So naturally, she wasn’t able to just sit back and relax as she watched her husband cut down the tree.

She had to think of a way to put a creative, artistic spin on the stump that remained. With the tree being located right off the side of the street, where all passersby could admire it, she ultimately came up with the idea to turn it into a gnome tree stump house.

While Mimi admits that her husband is usually not too fond of her ambitious ideas, this is one he’s admitted to being pretty proud about accomplishing.

Shortly after her husband had cut the tree down, they worked together in order to collect all of the supplies they needed. This involved many trips to stores such as Lowe’s, Walgreen’s, and the local dollar store to purchase plywood, cedar plank, and other items. They also got pretty thrifty and decided to recycle by using old scrap wood and second-hand materials.

A few weeks later, despite having to push through a big storm that came into town, Mimi was ready to unveil her biggest DIY project yet to the world.

The Gnome House has been finished and has since been decorated with the cutest little touches such as miniature lanterns, hand-crafted wooden windows, small clay pots filled with flowers and a shepherd’s hook.

Mimi has said that neighbors have turned this project into a big hit and have offered tons of praise towards her for this simple but creative masterpiece.

She also adds that it as a cute way to dress up a stump and it’s nice to see when they pull up into the driveway.

Mimi and her hubby weren’t the first couple to come up with the idea of a gnome themed house. In fact, there’s a human sized gnome house in Orcas Island, located in Washington.

This house stays true to it’s roots and is hand carved from wood and even has gnomes of all shapes and sizes located in hidden parts of the house.

Here’s the human sized treehouse in all of its glory.

If you want to make a Mimi-inspired tree stump home for your fairy garden or gnomes, here’s a video of the build she completed with her husband.
